Satellite towns clustering around the edge of the city were once seen as the ideal of functional urbanism, while nowadays they lead a rather more shadowy existence.

On several early winter mornings I would get onto the first train and set out to the huge satellite towns far out in the east of Berlin in order to immerse myself in the commuter traffic, and then travel back to the city during rush hour.

Come into being in early 2012 the pictures of the project are given a frame and a melody with this booklet.

It contains 48 photographs showing street scenes from Vietnam, China, Tibet as well as Italy, Germany and the Baltic states. Taken in such different places the pictures shine a light on the foreign and the familiar and draw the eye to one subject in particular: the urbanites in their habitat.
